So there's something that's going on, [...] going on. you the myth.

[12:25]

Touch up. Come here. So, you can go there. You don't want to get it. You don't need it. You don't want to get it. At your request, Rinpoche will be conferring tonight an initiation of Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom.

[13:45]

Now, in receiving this initiation, it's important to keep in your mind your own motive in requesting this initiation, that is, that in order to attain Buddhahood or a perfect enlightenment for the sake of all living beings, you are requesting this initiation so that you would be able to obtain the realization of selflessness that this is the method for obtaining the realization of selflessness, and that is, this realization, this kind of wisdom or insight, is a prerequisite in the attainment of Buddhahood. Now, tonight, Rinpoche will be giving two types of initiation.

[14:49]

The first is the initiation of the Bodhisattva Manjushri in his wisdom-increasing aspect. This is the form in which the Bodhisattva Manjushri appeared to the Thanda of the Sakya Order, Sacin Kumbha Nyingo, and bestowed upon him the teaching which is known as the Jambasiddha, or parting from the four desires. he will be, Rinpoche will confer an empowerment which is, which empowers one to recite this particular invocation of the Bodhisattva Manjushri.

[15:53]

This will be related to the papers which I passed out. There is a particular empowerment ceremony that is associated with that particular recitation and meditation upon Manjushri. It's a very good thing for us to be able to do this. But, if you don't do this, you won't be able to do this. If you don't do this, you won't be able to do this. You won't be able to do this. Now, in the ceremony itself, it won't be possible for Rinpoche to explain every detail

[17:00]

We haven't time for a translation, an explanation of every detail in the ceremony. However, as he reads the, as he performs the ceremony, please direct your attention to the sound of his words, at least with an unwaveringly concentrated mind. Be assured that as we go along that Rinpoche will pause and let you know about the more important features of the initiation. Whatever you need to know and all of the significant features of the meditation will be explained to you as we go along. Namo'valokiteshvaraya. In order to be able [...] to be

Namo Amitabha.

[26:29]

This particular consecration the Bodhisattva of Manjushri originated with a great Indian scholar, saint, the master Jetari. The master Jetari, he received... The Master Jeta received this initiation or consecration from the Bodhisattva Manjushri himself, who appeared to him directly and bestowed this particular initiation upon him.

[28:05]

And he, in turn, conferred this initiation upon a great yogi, Vajrasanapada. Now, later, the second Patriarch of the Sangha, But, you know, the men and the dogs... Now, when Sāchin Kuntindu was twelve years old, Bari Lodzawa told him that, since you are your late father's son, born into a noble family, the noble family of Khön, you will have to acquire much learning and realization.

[29:08]

And for that you will need, you will especially need wisdom. And he urged him to do this meditation of Manjushri. He conferred upon him this particular consecration, initiation, and instructed him in the way to meditate. So at the age of twelve, Sanchin Kumbhagimbo went into a meditating retreat in a cave near Sakya, near the town of Sakya. The cave's name was... The cave was called Jamyang Drupuk, which means the... Well, the cave where Manjushri used to be meditated upon. So he went there and meditated for six months. And at the end of six months of performing this meditation, the Bodhisattva Manjushri appeared to him also and taught him the teaching which is now known as the Yama-siddha, the parting from the four desires, and bestowed upon him a blessing of wisdom.

[30:21]

From that very moment of his encounter with the Bodhisattva, Sakyong Kuni Nyingpo, at the age of 12, he gained tremendous realization and insight, just an inconceivably fast realization in which he was able to understand the true sense of all Buddhist teachings and doctrines. And from that time on, whenever he had any question about Dharma or any doubt, hesitation about the tuning of dharma, and only to pray to the Bodhisattva Manjushri, the Bodhisattva will appear to him instantly and explain the doctrine to him. I don't know how to say it.

[31:24]

I don't know how to say it. The Sakyong Kumbhunga later confirmed this by initiation of only his sons, Je Tsongkhapa, Je Tsongkhapa and others. And it was passed and was taught by Sakyong Kumbhunga and transmitted by him. And the Sakyong Order itself has become especially identified with the activity of the Bodhisattva Manjushri, that in every generation there have been great Sakya teachers who have been blessed by the Bodhisattva Manjushri.

[32:36]

And for this reason, the warrior himself has become very closely identified with this particular Bodhisattva Manjushri. He loves it. Not in the commencing with the initiation karma itself, you should visualize that the teacher, Venerable Maitreya, who is conferring the initiation to you, that is found in the form of the Bodhisattva, Venerable Manjushri himself. Now visualize that countless rays of light shine forth, countless rays of orange light shine forth from the syllables of the mantra within the heart

[33:54]

of the Bodhisattva seated in the sky in front of you and those rays of light are absorbed into your heart where also the orange syllable D is surrounded by the syllables of the mantra and together we recite and your mind becomes endowed with great wisdom and the blessings of the Bodhisattva. And together, as we visualize this, we recite 21 times the mantra, Aum Aravata Nadi, which is found at the bottom of the page. Aum Aravata Nadi [...] Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare,

[35:16]

SIDDHIN KHYO KHYE KHYEN RABWE ZER KHYE DALU SUNG BU MANG BA RA SA NI KA DONG THENG KHYO YUNG PO PA YE LO DROP PE NGON TAR DO SO YIN SO HA DA NI YUNG KHYE RANG NANG GYENG PO YUNG DRIN YIN SANG DE KHYE Now, as before, visualize that rays of light shining forth from the heart of the Bodhisattva seated in the sky in front of you, and as these rays of light orange light, enter your being from the crown of your head and are absorbed into your consciousness, you become endowed with the blessings and great wisdom of the Bodhisattva.

[36:40]

And again we recite the verses, Hare Kumbh Maharaj Nirmala Chakravarti Mahadeva Kshatriya Sarvabhauma Kunti [...] Sarv Now again visualize that many replicas of the mantric rosary within the heart of the Bodhisattva. the syllables of the mantra, OM ARAH VATANA DHI, are visualizing them in the form, so to speak, of a rosary.

[38:13]

I think that countless replicas of that mantra emerge from the mouth of the Bodhisattva and are absorbed into your own heart and are absorbed there. into the mantric rosary, that is, the orange syllable, D, surrounded by the syllables om arapatana. Now in very early reductions of this particular sadhana or meditation manual, the mantra was ultimately given in the form of om arapatsanna dhi hum swaha.

[39:36]

But this is found early in a certain, in the very oldest text. Not at all in any of the later texts. But on this occasion, we will recite it as it is sometimes found in the earlier versions. Aura pasanadau unzoa. [...] There are a lot of young guys in this place.

[40:44]

Some of them are still here. You don't give it to me. [...] Thank you. Again, visualizing yourself in the form of the Bodhisattva of wisdom and history, visualize also that from the heart of the Bodhisattva seated in the sky in front of you, again rays of orange light and the mantra issue forth and are absorbed through the crown of your head into and descend to the heart region where they also become or non-dually absorbed into the mantra and into your own consciousness and your own mind becomes perfected in wisdom.

[42:24]

Again, reciting Khandi Lodro. Khandi Lodro, [...] In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Again visualize that countless rays of orange light issue forth from the heart of the bodhisattva seated in the sky in front of you and are absorbed into your own heart.

[43:35]

and we will recite again the mantra, Om Arapat Sanat Ihi, 21 times. Om Arapat Sanat Ihi. Om Arapat Sanat Ihi. Om Arapat Sanat Ihi. Yes, just some young boy on a metal ploy, he ran something. He did it for a minute. Threwing a few grains of rice into the air, visualize that you are offering, visualize that you are offering flour to the bodhisattva, and then we'll recite this verse together.

[45:02]

If you don't have rice, just visualize you're offering flour. the way you do and do. Someday darkness will come. [...] Now, think that the Bodhisattva, who is, of course, your guru and the Bodhisattva of wisdom, Manjushri, in a non-dual form, now returns the flower to you with his blessing as grains of rice are strewn upon your heads. Nga, [...] Nga

[46:19]

When you are in the state of Nyangpa Yongru, you will be able to see the true nature of all sentient beings. You will be able to see the true nature of all sentient beings. When you are in the state of Nyangpa Yongru, you will be able to see the true nature of all sentient beings. You will be able to see the true nature of all sentient beings. RINPOCHE LEAVES RINPOCHE LEAVES So you should think that you have received, fully received all the blessings of the body, voice and mind of the Bodhisattva of wisdom.

[47:30]

And then we recite verses of dedication in which all the merit of reciting verses of praise to the Bodhisattva of Manjushri and reciting his mantra. And these merits are said to be extremely vast. On that merit also we dedicate a turnover towards the enlightenment of all living beings with a prayer that through the blessings of Bodhisattva that great wisdom and insight will arise within us. Namaste. The Tripali Tungwaye. The Tripali Tungwaye.

[48:32]

The Tripali Tungwaye. That completes the second initiation. And for the next few minutes, Rinpoche will give us the reading empowerment, which will take only a very short while. Rinpoche would like to offer a symbolic offering.

[49:42]

It's symbolic because a book is the symbol of the wisdom of the Bodhisattva, of the Bodhisattva Manjushri. The book is his special symbol and he is, of course, associated with learning and especially the awakening of insight into ultimate reality, into emptiness. And this particular little book is offered by Rinpoche on behalf of the Jetsun Sakya. It contains a very brief account of the Sakya order and the five great masters who established it many centuries ago. The book was written by a German monk, a German who has become a Sakya monk. And it was published by a Sakya center which recently started in Singapore. Pardon me, in Malaysia, I think.

[50:44]

I'm not sure where. The Sakya Timbaling. So Rinpoche would like to offer this as a symbolic representation of the book which Manjushree holds.
