Welcome to Engage Wisdom
A note about levels of access: Visitor - Member - Curator - Manager
Public talks are visible to every Visitor, and if you create a free account, you can subscribe to save your favorites, and enjoy other features when you are logged-in. If you’re new here and would like to explore these talks, please browse through the public collection, noting you may have some limitations until you Create an Account.
Private talks are viewable only by Members of a community, who can work together to give these talks titles, descriptions, and other metadata to make them more searchable. If you are part of a community whose content is hosted on Engage Wisdom, you are encouraged to join the community so you can view the full archive and help. The community's Managers review these membership requests periodically and grant access to additional users as space allows.
Each community can also have Curators, who have the ability to edit more aspects of a talk than Members, and help guide the efforts to identify, organize, and engage with the archive. Curators are usually senior students and staff members of a community. If you're a Community Member who would like to help take care of the archive, please do email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and let us know your full name and relationship to the community. The Community Managers will follow-up with you as soon as there is room for more Curators to join in.
What's new about the Search engine?
- The first thing you'll notice is the row of Filters at the top. In the Date filters you can see how many talks are available from each year/month, and select the year/month you want to see.
- Similarly, you can now filter by Speaker and Location, and see how many talks are available from each of these in the process.
- You can also enter anything in the smart Search box, like Names, Locations, Keywords, or anything you're looking for.
- Using the Search box will also turn up results where the words appear in the description, notes, transcript, etc. so this is a more thorough search method.
- You'll now find that the search results that come up are sorted with the most relevant ones at the top, based on whether the words you entered were found in the Title, for example, vs. the Description or the Notes.
- And most of all, our new Search engine is blazingly fast compared to the old Search page.
- We'll continue to optimize the speed, relevance, and available features for searching Engage Wisdom, and we welcome your feedback in our survey, as always.

How do I edit a talk's info?
Members of a community can help edit keywords, descriptions, and other info. More info is available in our Editing Guide.
Why do some talks have no title or description?
Gathering this info is a community effort, and you're invited to help!
When recordings are imported from original cassette tapes, reels, or other older recording formats, at the minimum, each talk is given a Serial number, and the Date of the talk is entered, if known. All markings on the original tape or disc are also photographed, and these photos appear right there alongside the audio.
Here's where you come in: Deciphering the handwriting in the photos often requires some knowledge of the subject matter, speaker, and context of the talk, so if you can help identify things like the Location, Speaker name, etc. please click that big "Edit" button and enter them in. (Note: You'll need to Log-In to see the Edit button)
How do Keywords work?
Any user can contribute keywords to help make the collection more searchable. You can also click on each one to see a list of all talks that have been tagged with that keyword. When you listen to a talk that's lacking this descriptive info, please consider adding at least a few keywords if you have a moment. This will help others find it in the future.
When listening, how can I skip ahead or back?
Clicking anywhere on the progress bar while audio is playing will let you navigate to various parts of the talk.
Can I share a link to a specific talk?
Of course! You can share any public talk by simply copying the URL from the top of your browser window. Keep in mind that sharing private or unpublished talks would require visitors to log-in for access, and would only be available and shareable within your community.
Can I share private talks with friends outside my community?
Since private talks are only available to community members by permission of the author, please don’t give your login or password to anyone else. If a fellow community member would like to join, encourage them to Create an Account.
