called living beings to enter the Buddha way and perfect the body of a Buddha. And I heard that, well, what do you understand by perfecting the body of the Buddha? Some people might think that that means that they would make their own body into a perfect Buddha body but another understanding would be that you would make your body you would give your body to the perfection of the Buddha body or to the another word that I don't know what the Chinese character is but the Chinese character might also mean to complete perfect in English means to complete And the Chinese character that's used for perfect is also the Chinese circle, and also complete.

So complete, circle, perfect. So I don't have a problem with thinking of making a body into perfect with a body, but also another way to see it is that your body, is given in practice on the way. And as you give your body, your body completes the Buddha body, contributes to the completion of the Buddha body. The Buddha body is not complete without your body. And the Buddha wants everybody to give their body to complete the Buddha body. And it says also earlier, it also says in the Vendula, it says that by expressing the Buddhist seal, the Buddha mudra, the Buddhist shape, with our actions of mind, body, and voice, the whole phenomenal world becomes the Buddhist seal.

the Buddha's five, and the entire sky turns into enlightenment. And because of this, this causes the Dharma bliss of the Buddhas to increase, or the Dharma bliss of the Buddha to increase. And it renews the magnificence of the Buddha's awakening of the way. So our body can be moment by moment given to increase the great body of Buddha, to complete the great body of Buddha, to increase the Dharma bliss of the Buddha body, and to complement and contribute to the glorious adornment of this enlightenment body. And we can do it in our, you know, basic shape of sitting. but there's many other ways that our action of body, speech and mind can be offered as the shape of the Buddha body and offered to refresh and renew the magnificence of the awakening of the way of this great Buddha body which doesn't exclude our body becoming Buddha body because it's inseparable

And I thought of, so that's our basic example of sitting meditation, our basic ritual expression of this gift. But I also thought of a story about my grandson. And one day at Green Dodge, I was scheduled to get a talk on a Sunday morning. And that Sunday morning, he and his mother were visiting the Gulsh. And it was one of those Sundays where at the beginning of the talk, the speaker speaks to the children. So as I was leaving the house, I said to my daughter, do you and Macy want to come to the talk? Because it's a children's talk. And she said, no, I don't want to go. I said, well, you can just bring him in. It's just 10 minutes.

He said, no, I don't want to go. So I was holding out the guitar in an ACO. He wanted to go with me. He wasn't really talking that much. But I could, he and his mother, I mean, his mother and I could see that he actually wanted to go with me. So I carried him down to the to the zendo and went into my room. And I was going to put him down. He said, no. I said, I'll just put you down for a second. He said, I'll put my robes on. So he let me put him down. He could walk, but he wasn't talking much. And so I put my robe, my okay zone. And then I picked him up again and carried him into the zendo. And then again I said, I'm just going to put you down there so I can bow.

So I put him down, and I went up to the altar. And this is in Los Angeles, pretty much, and the room's got a lot of people in there. So the altar's surrounded by people. And so I go up to the altar and offer incense, and I come back. and put out my bowing cloth and stand up. And then between me and the altar is my grandson standing, looking at me. So there's a Buddha and a grandson facing me, and he has his hand in the gassho. And the song you made, which you made, and I loved you, and you were a big fan. I can see the grandfather getting up from his bound cloth and finding his grandson standing in front of him in front of the Buddhas with his hands in the gassho. So then I bow to him and the Buddhas. And, of course, this is completing the body of a Buddha.

This is perfecting and increasing the Dharma bliss. Everyone enjoys seeing the old and the young together, respecting each other, respecting the Buddha, and doing the traditional form of offering, of homage to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. So then I finish my three vows and what I do is I leave my barn mat there and go up and sit down because I'll come back later and bow at the end. So I leave it there and I start walking up to my seat and I gesture to him to come with me. So I walk a few steps and I hear him go, huh? And he has gathered up my to give it to me because he thought I forgot it. And he didn't know it was that simple.

He gathered it just like a teacher would gather it for the teacher. He gathered it like this and bringing it to me. It was, to me, that was really astounding to see him. The way he picked it was just like we teach people to do it. And I said, no, it's okay to leave it. So I took it from him and put it back. Again, this completes the Buddha body. Every one piece in life. So we do these things. Then I went up and sat down. He came with me. I don't remember. I think he walked. I was holding his hand. He was walking with me. And I had previously told the people who were taking care of the children that I might bring him. And they talked to the children's doctor, could they take care of him, because he wouldn't have, his mother wouldn't be with him.

so very well next to me, and so I thought I'd sit down with the other kids. So I got up on my seat and I was arranging my robes, and then I noticed that he got up on the platform and sat down next to me, across from me, facing the assembly. And the assembly was looking at him, not me. He was perfectly comfortable just sitting there, as his grandfather was looking at 300 people. So then I gave him a little talk to the children, and he sat there quietly. And then his mother came, and the children started to leave. And as the children started to leave, he crawled over and got on my lap, next to the microphone and the amplifiers. And his mother came over. And I said, we have to go now. She started taking away from me and started crying.

I said, we're going to leave. More than amplifying. All the sick ones in the poor mother community. So anyway, those kinds of things happen in our practice. So the Buddha wants to perfect a great body, which is not just Shakyamuni Buddha, but it's all of our practices together. All of us contributing to the great, round, cosmic mirror of Buddha Bodhi. Every moment we can do this. Every moment we can to give our action of body, speech, and mind to this great Buddha body. Don't you think so?

And of course, we can also get distracted. It's getting close to four, and I think we're kind of scheduled to end at four. And I would guess that if I asked you if you had any gifts, you would start bringing gifts and be here till 5 or 6. But I feel your gifts, and unless someone would feel incomplete, we could wish each other well and give this to you in a way. Okay? I wish you well.
