Where is the grave? Where is the marching to the grave? Where is the marching to the happiness or marching to the pleasure? One of my friends who lived in a small temple in my neighborhood in Japan, he felt always lonely. After funeral service, he went to the town and drank wine. When he came back, he took a one-day trip. And then I used to visit next morning, How are you? Asking to him, How are you? He said, Well, I feel lonely. Same. Where is marching to pleasure? Do you think there is some answer pre-definitely?
[01:07]
Yes, I am happy. Yes, maybe so. I am happy. But unhappiness you believe looks like very stubbornness, stubborn nature. That's why you attach to, I am unhappy. Unhappiness which you believe in is based on the independent origination. Independent origination. Completely there is no answer.
[02:11]
Then I said always life is unfathomable. Bucket with no bottom. Your life is unfathomable. Bucket with no bottom. No bottom. You believe this. You believe. Then how to take care of this life? What is bucket no bottom? One day or two day or three days or ten years or twenty years, even though you continue to pour the water into bucket with no bottom. Is it possible to fill it with water? It isn't.
[03:16]
But we do. We do. Through and through you should keep in mind, life is bucket with no bottom. No bottom. Then no bottom. If you want to pour the water into the bucket with no bottom, don't be gnarly. Don't be gnarly. Don't be gnarly. If you want to pour, that's alright. Please, don't be gnarly. And pour again and again. This is transparent effort.
[04:21]
Transparent emancipation. Not emancipation. Not merely effort. Transparent effort. If you want to make effort, you try to make transparent effort. Life is unfathomable. Nevertheless, we have to pour the water into the bucket with no bottom. I'm sorry for it. But you cannot get rid of it. Everybody, you have to. Everybody. Even a Zen master. Even a Shakyamuni Buddha. But please, don't be gnarly. Each moment when you pour the water,
[05:28]
please, settle yourself on the self. In the realm of a bucket with no bottom, just stay without expecting. Filling the bucket with no bottom with water. Just pour. Just pour. Moment. Moment. This is the best way. There is nothing but doing best to your life in that way. This is the best way. If you should find another way, please. Please. Please go anywhere as you like. And then, at that time, I will practice. I would practice under you.
[06:30]
Bowing a hundred times, a thousand times. A thousand times. Then, the great way of all Buddhas is emancipation and realization. This emancipation is transparent emancipation. Whatever you do, transparent emancipation. Transparent effort. Make transparent effort. Please see transparent unhappiness. Transparent happiness. Transparent zazen. For this, don't be gnarly. Don't be gnarly.
[07:37]
Don't be gnarly is not to be lazy. To be lazy. Just pour. Just pour. The realm of just pouring there is very total dynamic working. And also, insight into the depth of human life according to Buddha's teaching. Thank you very much.
