What Shakyamuni Buddha expressed, so even in zazen, I think you will notice multitudinous possibility, sometimes how wonderful zazen is, sometimes how awful zazen is, sometimes you notice a terrible mind, that's okay, effortless right now, okay. Then, as mentioned last week, Zen practice is to be master of yourself in whatever situation you may be. In other words, the person does a single step is the essence of completeness, okay, essence of completeness.

[01:19]

I think you understand the meaning of essence of completeness, which you take a step, not in the future, not in the past. When you try to cross the river, the other shore is over there. Happiness doesn't exist in the other shore. Happiness exists under just a step. When you take that one step, this one step is essence of completeness. I think you understand this point according to the explanation I have had. I have made, so effort is here, okay. Effort must be made at the reality of the present, the reality of the present.

[02:23]

This is the way of understanding deeply the bedrock of the human life. If you miss this point, whatever kind of religion you believe, you can't. You can't escape, you can't save, you can't save you from any embarrassing situation. You have to take consideration of your life deeply again and again in terms of bedrock of the life. In other words, the reality or realities of life, regardless of whatever kind of religion you believe. Never mind whatever kind of religion you believe, Buddhism or Christianity, that's okay. If you believe Buddhism, that's okay. If you believe Christianity, that's okay.

[03:32]

But important point, whatever kind of religion you believe, please try to again and again look at your life. Look at realities of life in which the bedrock of life is going on. This is very important. At that time, while you have to practice Zazen, while you believe, why do you believe a certain religion? What you believe religion must come from the deep understanding of bedrock of your life. Not in terms of a certain principle of religion, a certain principle of ideologies, a certain principle of medical science.

[04:35]

Even though whatever kind of computer you can produce, electric computer doesn't save you from any kind of suffering. The point exists, the point exists within your daily life.
